“What the books taught me, I’ve practised. What they didn’t teach me, I’ve taught myself. I’ve gone into the forest and wrestled with the lion. I didn’t get this far by teaching one thing and doing another.”

— I, Lalla. The Poems of Lal Ded (translated)

General Practice

After graduating from Monash University in 2012, I completed my internship & residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. My fierce determination in becoming an orthopaedic surgeon led me to take up a registrar position at Monash Health in 2016 whilst simultaneously publishing & presenting my masters research on reconstructive hip options for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

When the world that I knew flipped upside down in 2019, I was slowly drawn towards General Practice. It is an area of medicine that has the greatest capacity for creating positive change in people’s wellbeing. I am moved by the sincere depth and intimacy that I find within each patient-doctor relationship.

With the right seeds of intention, open trust & vulnerability, our work together can be strong enough to overcome almost any ailment. With my support, my patients are empowered to take ownership of their health condition and are encouraged to be open to receiving both eastern and western treatments. I will be pursuing more studies in Ayurveda over the coming years, and plan to integrate this within my clinical practice.

Even though orthopaedic surgery is a part of my past, I still maintain my skills & knowledge as a private surgical assistant to Dr Hugh Won, an orthopaedic surgeon at John Flynn Hospital.
